The squad won the team title in its bracket of the Cardinal Classic in Coon Rapids on Sunday. Willmar opened pool play and recorded wins of 14-3 over Brainerd and 4-3 over Champlin Park. It tied with Centennial Lakes by Edina, 6-6. That 2-0-1 recorded enabled the Gold to advance to the championship bracket. Willmar beat Minnetonka 14-0 then beat a second team from Centennial Lakes in the final, 10-2. The team's head coach is Kelly Zuidema. Assistant coaches are Matt Carroll and Anthony Stern. This was Willmar Gold's second tournament of the season. The team is scheduled to play through July.
